Unfortunately, the Florida tropical climate is also ideal for the luxuriant growth of aquatic plants in lakes, ponds and canals. Since we depend on these natural and man-made bodies of water for recreation, aesthetics, irrigation, catchment basins and drinking purposes, these plants pose a nuisance if they become overabundant.
Algae mats which cover lakes and submerged weeds that choke canals not only spoil the scenery, but restrict recreational activity and can cause a health hazard by increasing stagnation.
